Guatemala – Baja Verapaz
The Guatemala – Baja Verapaz coffee from Omkafè’s “Selezione” is a 100% Arabica specialty coffee sourced from the central highlands of Guatemala, one of the most renowned areas for specialty coffee production. Grown at high altitudes, from 1,200 to 1,800 meters, in a unique microclimate on limestone-rich soils, this coffee develops a complex and balanced flavor profile. Production is managed by small local farmers, whom Omkafè supports through the selection of this unique, limited-edition lot.
This Selezione coffee is designed for espresso and moka brewing, delivering an elegant and versatile cup—perfect for those seeking a high-quality Guatemalan coffee that is balanced and easily recognizable.
Coffee in Guatemala:
small farmers, high quality
Baja Verapaz is located in the central highlands of Guatemala, where altitudes range from 1,200 to 1,800 meters, and the region’s microclimate is unique: cool, misty mornings, filtered sunlight, and consistent rainfall fed by nearby rainforests. The limestone-rich soil contributes to the coffee’s uniqueness, giving it remarkable clarity and a mineral sweetness. Cultivation here is small-scale and often generational, with plots carved into steep slopes and surrounded by native forests. While not as well-known as Huehuetenango or Antigua, Baja Verapaz offers an equally captivating cup. It is a relatively new region for coffee: many of the local farms are less than ten years old.
“I have visited Guatemala several times and knew of exceptional coffees from established specialty coffee regions like Huehuetenango or Antigua. Baja Verapaz was a real discovery: the dedication of small farmers to their young plantations is remarkable, and they sometimes face challenges due to lack of rain, but the quality expressed in these coffees rewards every effort.”
